Colds during the summer months

In News 0 comment

With the arrival of summer, we are all looking for ways to stay cool and comfortable in the midst of the high temperatures. Air conditioning and fans have become our allies to deal with the heat, but the question arises: can we catch a cold if we use them excessively during this season?

It is important to clarify that colds are not directly caused by air conditioning or fans. Colds are mainly caused by viruses that are spread through contact with sick people or contaminated surfaces. However, the incorrect use of these devices can have negative consequences for our health.

Air conditioning, in particular, can dry out the environment and our airways, weakening our natural defenses against viruses and other pathogens. In addition, the clash between the cold air from the conditioner and the heat from outside can affect our immune system and facilitate the appearance of symptoms similar to those of a cold.

Fans, for their part, do not cool the air, but create a feeling of freshness through air circulation. If the air is dry and hot, it could dry out our mucous membranes and cause irritation in the throat and nose.

To enjoy air conditioning and fans safely and avoid colds in summer, it is essential to take some precautions:

1. Maintain an adequate temperature: It is advisable to keep the temperature of the air conditioning between 22 and 25 ºC to avoid sudden changes between the interior and the exterior.

2. Renew the air: Whenever possible, it is advisable to use air conditioning systems with filters or fans that allow air to be extracted from the outside to maintain good air circulation.

3. Control humidity: Make sure the environment is not excessively dry. Using humidifiers or placing containers of water near fans can help keep the air humid.

4. Keep refrigeration systems clean: Be sure to regularly clean filters and air conditioning units to prevent a buildup of dust and bacteria.

Remember that air conditioning and fans are useful tools to keep us cool in summer, but we must use them responsibly and in a balanced way. Don't forget that colds are caused by viruses, so maintaining good hygiene, frequent hand washing, and avoiding close contact with sick people are also key measures to avoid colds this season. Enjoy the summer safely and take care of your health!
